Year 1972-1985

  • DUS was formed by a group of young volunteers and started working for the victims of Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 and devastating 1970 cyclone affected households at Hatiya Island focusing on humanitarian service to mankind.
  • Relief and rehabilitation program for the victims and initiate disaster management program at local level.
  • Rehabilitation of 2000 landless river bank eroded farmers in the newly accreted Govt. Khash land.
  • DUS turn into an organizational shape and named as Dwip Unnayan Sangstha in 1982.
  • Community Mobilization and revolving credit support to community started in 1984.
  • Registered with Ministry of Social Services & Welfare.
  • Registered with NGO Affairs Bureau.
  • Socio-economic development programs for the poor initiative from 1985.

Year 1986-2000

  • Strengthening Local Govt. bodies through capacity building in good governance, accountancy and resource management supported by IVS/ USAID
  • Capacity building of Union Parishad and Upazila Parishad for effective disaster management in four coastal district of Bangladesh supported by CARE-Bangladesh & USAID
  • Island fisheries development project implementation supported by DFID.
  • Disaster rehabilitation support project implementation supported by AusAid/Oxfam-America/Oxfam-UK, Oxfam-Hong Kong British ODA
  • Cyclone shelter Construction supported by CAA Australia
  • Housing support for poor supported by British ODA/CARE-Bangladesh/AusAid

Year 2011-2020

  • Rural Micro Finance, Urban Micro finance, Micro Entrepreneur, Seasonal Loan Support, Ultra-poor, Agriculture support service total household covered 39K+ in 2K+ Self Help Groups
  • Hatiya Dwip Livelihood Study supported by Kyoto University, Japan
  • Essential Health Service delivery for underserved household covering 110K+ HH.
  • Char Development and Settlement Project supported by Netherland Govt. & GoB household covered 40K+.
  • Community Radio setup at Hatiya Island household covering 400.7K population
  • UJJIBITO (Ujjibito is a Bangla word meaning ‘infused with new life) project household covering 70K HH
  • ENRICH (Enhancing Resources and Increasing Capacities of Poor Households Towards Elimination of their Poverty) project household covering 33K HH
  • SMART (Security, Market Access, Rights and Transparency in Coastal Bangladesh) project household covering 50K HH.
  • PACE (Promoting Agriculture Commercialization and Enterprises) project jointly financed by PKSF & IFAD and it’s mainly aims to develop value chain and it has covered 30.6K farmer group.
  • CJRF (Climate Justice Resilient Fund) for providing technical, extension and input supports in respect of climate adaptation too hard to reach community climate change impacts and resilient building. The project household covering 200.27K population.
  • LIFT (Learning and Innovation Fund to Test New Ideas) for Advocacy and involvement to land distribution process among the Ultra Poor. It has covered 10 unions of Hatiya Upazila and Monpura Upazila. From the project a sheep rearing and breed development farm is continued at Nijhumdwip Union.
  • Social Advocacy and Knowledge Dissemination project for social development at Hatiya Upazila and the main theme of the project is social development and funded by PKSF.
  • Sports and Culture program for youth development at Hatiya Upazila and activated 10 Kishor Club + 14 Kishoree Club. The main objective is to maintain the national culture and sports through the 24 clubs.
