Demand for drinking water supply has increased in vast low lying areas of coastline. Millions of environmentally displaced people are in need of fresh water supply.

Schooling for drop out children at Charlands

Due to climate change impacts thousands of children’s are displaced with their parents recently in newly accreted char lands raised near Bay of Bengal. No public or private schools yet set up in the area. DUS operates few non formal schools as pilots. Health Care Service for affected community

Climate change related exposures already affects the health status of millions of working women, particularly those with low adaptive capacity. DUS runs few satellite clinics in the remotest islands of the coastal area. One satellite clinic operating costs Bangladesh tk.150,000 ( $2150) per year. A clinic covers 5000 population in far flung charlands of Hatiya and Manpura island.
Social forestry for greenbelt in coastal area.

Coasts are exposed to increasing risks of regular tidal surge, tropical cyclones and land erosion due to climate change affects. DUS supports land less migrated farmers to establish plant nursery those are tested and have adaptable capacity in environmental hazards. A rural plant nursery development costs Bangladesh TK.35000.00 ( $ 50) per year which is usable as revolving fund.
Food security, social protection in vulnerable areas.

Due to inadequate and irregular rainfall and to avoid adverse impacts on livelihood women’s are encouraged to produce ground nut and pulses in their farmlands. DUS provides technical and financial support to thousands of farmers to produce lean season cash crops to cover losses of peak season agricultural products. DUS provides seasonal agricultural loan support to farmer’s community. Affected farmers are provided with seasonal loan worth of Bangladesh Tk 15000( $ 215) average per year. Interest rate 6.5% is fixed by authority.
Cyclone resistant Houses for vulnerable community

The increased frequency of tropical cyclone and storm surge causes major damage to our traditional houses in the coastal belt. Cyclone Resistant house with raised platform is designed by experts for climate change adaptation to live with environmental hazards.
DUS has supported 1500 affected households those who lost their houses in last SIDR 07 cyclones. The above cyclone resistant costs Bangladesh Tk. 70,000( $1000) per unit.
